Residents of Miritini, Changamwe and surrounding areas will soon enjoy smooth rides aboard the commuter trains following the construction of a railway line between Mombasa CBD and Mombasa Terminus. This initiative will see passengers intending to use the Madaraka Express Passenger Service travel via train from the Old Mombasa station along Mijikenda road to Mombasa Terminus in Miritiini. In the same way, passengers arriving from Nairobi and other counties traversed by the Standard Gauge Railway line will use the commuter train from Mombasa Terminus in Miritini to Mombasa CBD.

The project route entails construction of a Meter Gauge Railway link of length 2.772km, from Mombasa SGR Terminus to newly constructed Miritini MGR passenger station. Passenger platforms of length 250m have been constructed on both ends. The project also includes construction of a pedestrian bridge linking the SGR and MGR platforms, a locomotive turntable and a railway bridge of length 480m across the Makupa Causeway.
