Ministry of Roads and Transport, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen E.G.H, witnessed the signing of the Nairobi Railway City Central design contract between Kenya Railways and WS Atkins International Limited, on June 23, 2023. Thus, kicking off the process towards the realization of this iconic project.

The Nairobi Central Station will play an integral part in the transformation of urban mobility in the Nairobi Metropolitan area as a key node within the Nairobi Commuter Rail Network with a capacity of 30,000 passengers per peak hour.

This reaffirms the government of Kenya’s commitment towards the delivery of the Nairobi Railway City Project. Also present, were PS, State Department for Transport, Mr. Mohamed Daghar, Kenya Railways MD, Philip J. Mainga EBS, British High Commission representative, Mark Povey, WS Atkins International Limited Client Director, Philip Dowrick and KR senior management.

The intricate designs are set to be complete by the end of the year. It is estimated that major works at the Nairobi Central Station will kick off in January 2024.
