Ans: There are two routes that DMUs are currently plying that is Embakasi and Syokimau

  1. What is the sitting capacity per coach on NCR DMUs trains?

Ans: In the DMUs, it has 2 sets of sitting capacity. One usually accommodates 60 passengers seated while other one can carry 45 seated passengers

  1. Where does one get the tickets to board DMU trains?

Ans: There are designated stations that have train embarking and disembarking platforms in which passengers can buy their tickets from. These are: –

  • Donholm Railway Station
  • Pipeline Railway Station
  • Embakasi Village Railway Station
  • Imara Daima Railway Station
  • Syokimau Railway station
  1. How much do you charge for the transport service in the DMUs?

Ans: The DMUs have a flat fare rate of Sh.100 for every route.

  1. What is the meaning of DMU?

Ans: It means Diesel Multiple Unit Train. It is powered by on-board Diesel engines. DMUs requires no separate locomotive as it is incorporated with the carriage.

  1. Will you DMU trains ply other routes apart from Syokimau and Embakasi route?

Ans: KR has acquired second batch of DMUs which are expected to arrive Early April 2021 and will be dispatched to operate on other routes due to surge of passengers.

  1. Is there a train that transports passengers from Nairobi Central Business District to SGR Nairobi Terminus?

Ans: We have 3 DMUs trains that ferry passengers to and from SGR Nairobi Terminus. The Morning one that departs from Nairobi Central Railway Station at 6.35am, the Second one departs at 12.00pm and the third one at 8.10pm

  1. What objects are prohibited on DMUs trains?

Ans: According to company policy, there are objects that one can’t be carried while onboard the DMU that includes Sharp objects, Explosives materials and Armored weapons.
