CONSTRUCTION OF NAIVASHA ICD-LONGONOT STATION NEW METRE GAUGE RAILWAY LINK.

Kenya Railways completed construction of the New SGR Phase 2A linking Nairobi and Naivasha extending rail connection from Mombasa to the newly built Naivasha ICD. The new rail and depot facilities has enabled significant movement of freight to Naivasha ICD which necessitate quick evacuations by both road and rail to the final destination. There was need to connect the new inland depot with the meter gauge rail system to complement evacuation of cargo by road from the depot. Kenya Railways has completed route selection for the construction of the Railway link between the Naivasha ICD and Longont station

General scope of the project

The general scope of the project comprises the following:

1. Route selection and alignment design between Naivasha ICD and Longonot station
2. Land acquisition process for construction of the Railway link along the selected corridor.
