Residents of Changamwe, Jomvu, Mikindani, Bangla and neighbouring areas are a step closer to improved rail connectivity, with construction of the Changamwe East and Changamwe West stations progressing steadily.
Kenya Railways Managing Director, Mr. Philip J. Mainga, EBS, has inspected the ongoing works to assess progress as the two stations move towards completion.
Changamwe East Station is 52% complete, while Changamwe West Station is 38% complete. Both stations are expected to be completed by the end of November 2026.
The stations will bring commuter rail services closer to residents, offering greater convenience for daily travel and improved connectivity across Mombasa. They will also connect passengers to the Mombasa SGR Terminus, providing access to Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) passenger services.
A park-and-ride facility will further enhance convenience, allowing commuters to park their vehicles and continue their journeys by rail.
Changamwe East Station will serve residents of Bangla, Mikindani and surrounding areas, while Changamwe West Station, located near Kona Reli, will serve residents of Jomvu and its environs.
As construction progresses, Kenya Railways remains focused on bringing rail services closer to communities and making everyday journeys more convenient for residents.
