ENHANCING THE BIG 4 AGENDA THROUGH RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE

AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Kenya Railways is currently providing low cost housing in Mukuru and Kibera under the Relocation Action Project (RAP). Through this project, 9000 housing units have already been done.
Through the Railway City project, an ongoing collaborative project between Kenya Railways (KR) aims to provide quality and affordable low-cost housing.

ENHANCING MANUFACTURING
Through the Madaraka Express Freight Service, Kenya Railways is facilitating growth of the manufacturing sector through providing a viable transport solution for industrial inputs such as machinery parts, fuel, steel coils and clinker.
The railway corridor is also stimulating development of industries and commodity-dedicated industrial clusters like in Athi River (clinker) and Makadara (grain).
The Metre Gauge Railway Revitalization initiatives supports local industries. This is because large quantities of local inputs such as steel, cement, aggregates, electricity generation and transmission pylons and cables, roofing materials, glass etc. are sourced from local industries to build the new railway network; potentially creating at least 10,000 jobs.

UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE
KR is currently funding the building of Mtito Andei Health Centre that was affected during the SGR project’s first phase. The new facility will provide the residents with affordable health services.

FOOD SECURITY AND NUTRITION
Through the Madaraka Freight Service, KR is contributing towards the country’s food security goals by transporting grain, farm machinery and fertilizer.
