Ans:Operations on the Longonot to Kisumu section of the Metre Gauge Railway line are set to commence in late 2021 .

  1. How long it takes to travel by train to Kisumu and will there be first class coaches for passengers?

Ans: Considering the number of stops that the train will be making, the planned time taken is about 12 hours. There will be two types of cabins that is first class cabins and Economy class cabins.

  1. Will you offer catering services onboard the train to Kisumu once operations begin?

Ans: Catering services will be offered onboard by Railways Training Institute catering division at a reasonable fee.

  1. How can one apply for jobs in the organization?

Ans: Once job openings are available, the Human Resource Department will place job advertisements on the Newspapers and Kenya Railways Main social media pages inviting eligible applicants to apply for the job positions

  1. What will be the frequency of passenger trains from Nairobi to Kisumu?

Ans: Kenya Railways plans to have the passenger train running on Daily basis once operations begin

  1. What type of goods will be carried by freight trains to Kisumu?

Ans: Apart from ferrying of passengers, there will be freight trains that will be operating on this route. The type of goods that will be transported on this route include: –

  • Petroleum Products
  • Live Animals E.g. Cattle

  1. When is the Nakuru-Kisumu project expected to be completed?

Ans: The project is expected to be completed by the end of March 2021 by the Kenya Defence Force, National Youth Service and Kenya Railways officials
