Kenya Railways (KR) Headquarters witnessed a flurry of activities on March 28, 2024 as employees from various regions gathered for the third annual Railway Day celebration.

As a significant part of the Human Resource culture transformation program, the event aimed to prioritize employee well-being and drive productivity. The chosen theme for this year was “Mental Wellness: My Health, My Wealth,” which strongly resonated with the Corporation’s steadfast dedication to fostering a supportive work environment.

Staff from the Central, Eastern, Western, Headquarters and RTI congregated at the headquarters from 7am in the morning, for breakfast and meet-up as they eagerly awaited insights from the Managing Director and KR management.

The event commenced with an official welcome note from the General Manager Human Resource and Administration, Asava Kadima, who underscored the significance of Railway Day in enhancing employee productivity.

Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga, EBS, commissioned the new purified water stations that have been placed in each KR block to allow staff have easy access to clean water. The MD enlightened that water stations play a crucial role in the Corporation’s cost-saving measures.

This initiative is in line with the Corporation’s dedication to sustainability and resource efficiency.” He spoke. Furthermore, the MD inspected a guard of honor mounted by the St. John’s Ambulance parade, highlighting the corporation’s focus on safety and emergency preparedness. Expressing gratitude to the Board of Directors for their support, the MD urged staff to uphold mutual respect and collaboration, essential for the Corporation’s success. “The Railway Day celebration underscores the ongoing culture transformation within Kenya Railways, emphasizing that it’s not merely a destination but a continual process of growth and evolution. By prioritizing mental wellness, productivity, and employee engagement, KR is poised to achieve greater success in the railway sector.” He spoke. He also disclosed that the KR Board of Directors had approved a new structure, which was going to benefit all employees.

In light of governmental measures on State Corporations’ expenditure, the MD emphasized the need for prudent management of the Corporation’s resources while assuring staff of ongoing efforts to enhance operations.

Following the MD’s address, staff were transported to the Railway Training Institute, where sports and wellness activities awaited them. The goal of this section of the event was to support employees’ physical well-being and cultivate a sense of teamwork.
