Principal Secretary, State Department for Roads Eng. Joseph Mbugua flagged off new Motorbikes and Land Cruisers at Kenya Railways Headquarters on 1st March 2024. The automobiles donated by the Government of China, marked an important strategy in bolstering security measures along key infrastructural corridors. The event was graced by Zhang Zhizhong, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of China in Kenya. He affirmed the Government of China’s resolve in exploring avenues of collaboration with Kenya’s government.

The Government of China is committed to seeking opportunities for collaboration with the Government of Kenya, ensuring economic development for both countries,’’ he stated.

Three motorbikes were allocated to Kenya Railways, which is a strategic move aimed at combatting the persistent challenge of railway vandalism along the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line. The addition of these motorbikes into Kenya Railways’ security operations is expected to enhance surveillance and response capabilities, safeguarding the vital transport infrastructure.

Additionally, two Land Cruisers were designated for the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA), intended for deployment in Lamu. The vehicles will play a crucial role in patrolling and securing the Garissa-Ijara Road, assisting contractors engaged in critical road development projects.

The PS, Eng. Joseph Mbugua expressed gratitude for China’s unwavering support within the Ministry adding that the collaborative efforts between the two nations have yielded fruitful results, facilitating the successful implementation of various developmental endeavors across Kenya.

It shows the significance of international cooperation in addressing shared challenges and propelling sustainable progress,” said the PS. Accompanying the PS were KR’s Managing Director, Mr. Philip J. Mainga EBS, and KENHA’s Director-General Eng. Kung’u Ndung’u. This strategic infusion of resources aligns with the commitment to secure transportation networks against emerging threats, ensuring the seamless flow of goods and people while safeguarding national assets.
