Kenya Railways, together with the National Land Commission (NLC) and the local administration on September 11, 2026, held a public baraza at Ilmashariani Morijo Village in Narok County to engage residents on the construction of the SGR Phase 2B and 2C.

The meeting, attended by Area Chief Ole Sankale, brought together Project Affected Persons (PAPs), who were served with Kenya Gazette notices as part of the process towards the valuation and compensation of their land and property.

The residents were served with notices outlining the parcel numbers of the affected properties, the registered owners and the specific areas to be acquired for the SGR Phase 2B project. The notices will allow the affected persons to confirm that their details and property information have been correctly captured before the valuation and compensation process proceeds.

The NLC team, led by Elizabeth Makau, a Valuer from the National Land Commission in Nairobi, took the residents through the process and explained what they should expect as the project progresses.

Ms. Makau explained that the valuation will consider the developments and investments that residents have made on their land, including houses, crops and graves, among other improvements.

She further explained that once the assessment is completed, an inquiry gazette notice will be published to allow landowners to confirm that their property and developments have been captured correctly. A valuation report will then be prepared before the compensation process proceeds. Kenya Railways will subsequently release the funds to the National Land Commission for payment to the affected persons.

The residents also raised questions about how the land acquisition process would be handled and how transparency would be maintained throughout the process. They were assured that they would be kept informed and given an opportunity to raise any concerns regarding their property and valuation.

The engagement provided an important platform for Kenya Railways, the National Land Commission and the local administration to listen to the community, address their concerns and clarify issues surrounding the project.

Kenya Railways continues to engage communities along the SGR corridor to ensure that residents are well informed and involved as the project moves forward.
