A delegation from the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania embarked on a fruitful benchmarking tour to Kenya Railways Headquarters on March 6, 2024. Led by members of the budget committee, the delegation received a warm reception from Kenya Railways Managing Director, Mr. Philip J. Mainga, EBS. During their visit, the Tanzanian delegation, joined by members of Kenya’s National Assembly, engaged in discussions centred around expanding rail transportation in the region.

With a keen interest, they thoroughly examined different aspects of Kenya’s railway operations, aiming to gather insights and best practices to enhance their own country’s rail transportation strategies. Of particular focus was Kenya’s ground-breaking Standard Gauge Railway system.

A highlight of the tour was a visit to Nairobi Central Station, where the delegation experienced first-hand the seamless journey aboard the SGR and MGR link train to the Nairobi Terminus. Here, they were given a comprehensive overview of the passenger journey, from booking and ticketing to boarding, departure, transit, and arrival.

Additionally, the delegation had the privilege of witnessing the intricate behind-the-scenes operations of the high-tech Madaraka Express Dispatch Centre. Impressed by Kenya Railways’ commitment to modernization and efficiency, the delegation expressed their appreciation for the strides made in service delivery. The exchange of knowledge and experiences between the two countries is expected to foster collaboration and further enhance rail transportation across the region.
