Kenya Railways conducted a three-day stakeholder engagement exercise from August 25 to 27, 2026, as part of the pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for the proposed Riruta–Ngong Meter Gauge Railway (MGR) Commuter Line.
The rail line aims to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel costs, and improve socio-economic connectivity across Nairobi and Kajiado counties.
Beyond introducing the new rail line, Kenya Railways is putting critical technical and social considerations at the heart of its upcoming community engagements.
The consultation sessions gathered direct input on the project’s physical route, proposed station locations, and associated infrastructure, ensuring the design aligns with local operational and community needs.
A major focus of the discussions centered on property and land-use impacts, specifically addressing land acquisition and resettlement plans.
