Kenya Railways (KR) and the Railway Training Institute (RTI) participated in The Homa Bay International Investment Conference that took place between February 27 ,2024 and February 29 ,2024, in Homa Bay County. The conference provided a platform for various stakeholders to explore investment opportunities and discuss strategies for economic growth.

KR and RTI seized the opportunity to highlight the critical role of skills development in driving a sustainable economic development in the country.

As one of the sponsors of the event, KR leveraged its participation in the conference exhibition by showcasing its ongoing projects aimed at enhancing transport infrastructure and connectivity. RTI on the other hand created awareness of the world-class training and education programs offered at the institute, for aspiring professionals. The main point of focus was the Kisumu Marine School which also offers the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and Basic safety training courses.

Speaking at the conference, Hon. Gladys Wanga, Governor Homa Bay County, commended Kenya Railways and RTI for their proactive approach to skills development and capacity building. She emphasized the importance of investing in education and training to meet the evolving needs of Kenya’s transport sector, particularly in light of ongoing infrastructure projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing connectivity and promoting trade.

Milly Kizili, Director, RTI highlighted the institute’s role as a leading provider of technical education and training in the railway sector. She underscored RTI’s commitment to excellence and innovation, noting the institution’s focus on equipping students with practical skills and relevant knowledge to thrive in the competitive job market.
