Transport Principal Secretary Mr. Mohamed Daghar, CBS on Monday July 22, 2024 officiated at the reception ceremony of 20 new Madaraka Express Passenger Service Coaches.
The batch of coaches consisted of 11 economy class coaches, 4 premium class coaches, 1 dining car, 1 power car and 3 first class coaches. The coaches are currently undergoing routine testing and will be introduced on to the trains very soon.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Mohamed Daghar, CBS said the coaches are designed to guarantee rider comfort and convenience, marking a crucial step in enhancing passenger comfort and elevating the rail travel experience for our users. He revealed that Premium Class Coaches have has modern features which will improve customer experience and position rail passenger transport as one of the go to services in the country.
“Our customers will surely enjoy riding on these coaches. The design and amenities provided are a guarantee of the nature of service we aspire to provide,” PS Transport – Mohammed Daghar, CBS.
He also revealed that in the new Economy class coaches passengers will no longer sit facing each other. Instead, the 3 by 2 seating arrangement across the width of the coach will have passengers facing either the departing station or the destination station.
Speaking at the same event, the Kenya Railways Managing Director said that Kenya Railways has factored in feedback received from passengers over the years in order to ensure that customers get what they expect of the Corporation.
“During acquisition of the new coaches, we factored in our customers’ feedback to further improve our services and customer experience. Among the considerations are seats and toilets designed for our differently abled customers. The signage also includes a Braille version for ease of use by customers,” he said.
All coaches are air-conditioned and offer a range of amenities including Charging points at each seat, baby-changing area for freshening up babies during the journey, Foldout tray tables, pocket seats for placing small items and Wi-Fi.
