Successful attainment of Vision 2030 calls for a considerable shift in the manner Kenya Railways develops railway infrastructure, mobilizes and employs resources, conducts operations and taps technology to deliver on the high expectations on the railway sector by the regional economies to whom the rail sector is a critical enabler.

In supporting the Government of the Republic of Kenya in attaining the set goals a=under the Vision 2030 blueprint and enabling the Big 4 Agenda, Kenya Railways undertakes to continue the construction of SGR; strategically revamp Metre Gauge Railway network; significantly improve the rail share of freight transported from Mombasa to Nairobi, Malaba, Kisumu, and other destinations including the neighboring East African countries; develop and equip the Railways Training Institute to become a regional centre of excellence; and develop the futuristic Railway City.
