MARINE SCHOOL
Introduction
Recent development of upgrading the National Rail System from the metre gauge to standard
gauge has to be complemented with efficient port services both inland and at the coast
to realize economic value for the country. Railway Training Institute being the training department
of Kenya Railways Corporation has seized this opportunity to utilize the corporation port facilities to
train vessel operators on the inland waterways.

Objectives of Marine training

• To collaborate with KMA and facilitate quality management and safety of Kenya’s Water ways to promote
regional integration through training
• It is a requirement that KMA provides evidence of training in marine to retain the countries listing
at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) hence the need to have training Institution likes RTI
conducting marine training.
• Meet the requirements of marine skilled manpower in the country
• Reduce the number of inland water accidents through efficient training of operators
• Equip operators with skills and competencies to protect and preserve the marine environment
• To complement the government aspirations outlined in Vision 2030 to transform Kenya into a
middle – income economy providing a high quality of life to all its citizens
• Offer job opportunities to communities leaving around the school
