Kenya Railways (KR) is a State Corporation in Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development. The corporation was established in 1978 under the Kenya Railways Corporation Act (Cap 397) of the laws of Kenya to take over the railways section in Kenya after the collapse of East Africa Community in 1977 which managed the East African Railways and Harbors Corporation. The entire railway system in Kenya consists of a single-track main line from Mombasa to Malaba.  The core mandates of the corporation are to provide an efficient and effective rail and inland waterways transport
