KR Secures Signal Frequencies for SGR

The Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) has approved telecommunication signals for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and allocated frequencies for the new service.

Chinese telecommunication giant, Huawei, who won the contract to build a train-to-ground communications solution fully integrated with train signal systems for the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR line is currently on the ground doing installation works.

Huawei is expected to provide the GSM-R dispatching communications network as well as a backbone optical transmission network, clock and synchronization system and power and environment monitoring system.


Signalling Equipment at Simba Station

On completion, the network will be mandated with major communications tasks comprising of mission-critical train dispatch, section maintenance communications, emergency communications and transmission of train control data along the railway line.
