In a move aimed at increasing the financial efficacy of the Madaraka Express passenger service, Economy class fares will rise come May 1, 2018. The fare revision will see passengers pay kshs. 1000 for a one-way ticket from Nairobi to Mombasa and vice-versa. First class fares, however, will remain the same.
The Madaraka Express service has so far transported record numbers of close to a million passengers along the NRB – MSA route since its launch on May 31, 2017. Since its launch, various efforts have been directed at improving the service’s efficacy. These include the introduction of a mobile booking option, which involves dialing the short-code *639# from a Safaricom line, and an online booking option on the website metickets.krc.co.ke.
