Kenya Railways Staff Bid Farewell to Long Serving Colleagues

For many years, the immediate former Ag. General Manager Concession Eng. Benedict Kimau and KR Driver Mr. Gabriel Andati of the Human Resources and Administration Department were a part of our daily lives. Probably, the day always started with a casual hallo or a friendly wave upon encountering them.

But as it has been said, everything that has a beginning must have an end. Eng. Kimau’s and Mr. Andatis tenure at with Kenya Railways is coming to an end. Staff members this week bid farewell to the two who have proceeded on terminal leave before officially exiting the Corporation later in the year. Eng Kimau joined the Corporation in 1982; he served in various positions and retired as the Ag. General Manager Concession. Mr. Andati joined the Corporation in 1975 and served as driver till his retirement.

Their Human Resources and Administration department as well as the Concession division held farewell sessions for the two on their last days of service at the Corporation. The Human Resource Department met at the RVR Cafeteria for the farewell luncheon where they wished Mr. Andati well and presented him with gifts.

Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Andati said that he enjoyed every minute of his stay at Kenya Railways. He added that Railways is a part of Kenya’s heritage and he will miss it so much.

“I am very humbled by your kind gesture. The railway transport sector has played an important role in the development of this country and for me it has been a great pleasure working at the Corporation. At the same time, I am very grateful to God for the favor he bestowed upon me during my stay here. I pray that He will continually bless you even as you strive to take the Corporation forward,” he said.

On his part Eng. Kimau said that it is an enormous privilege to have been part of the Kenya Railways family. He indicated that he was happy to have been part of the Corporation at a time when the Standard Gauge Railway line is being constructed and predicted a bright future for the Corporation. This was during a send off session organized at the Concession division offices.

“It is an exciting time for the railway transport in Kenya. The Standard Gauge Railway line is a phenomenal project that will transform the entire transport industry by making it better. Personally, I will miss this place. I am immensely proud to have played a part in the history of this Corporation considering I was part of the old railway before concession to Rift Valley Railways. I have also had ample opportunity to contribute to the Corporation during the post concession period and for this I am grateful to the Almighty God,” he said.

We wish them both well as they even as they leave the Corporation.
